Some people don’t know about the different types of grouting. You can also be one of them and if you also think the same then you are wrong. There are several types of grouting that are actually cement-based. There are some people who believe that grouting is not a section of the tile and for them, it is just a mixture that is used to fill in the spaces between the tiles. If you don’t know which type of grout you should use for the tiles then let me make it clear that the type of grouting depends on the type of project you are working on. If you want a more tough and stain-resistant, use grout mixtures for it.
Here we’ve described different types of grouts with their functions.
- Sanded Grout:
Sanded grout is commonly used for walls, floors, and countertops. This is prepared from the composition of sand, Portland cement, and other mixture. These all materials make it as hard as cement after dried. To use this type of grout for installing the tiles, you need to create a homogenous mixture with water. After that apply it between the gaps of the tiles, you can use a towel for applying the mixture. Whenever you apply this just make sure that it doesn’t get stained and this grout is very absorbent in nature.’
As the sand is a little hard in nature, so the major drawback of using the sand grout is that it can easily scratch the surface so it can’t be used for high polish tiles or marbles. Instead of this, you can use the unsanded grout for such surfaces as it contains all the above material except sand. But always remember while using an unsanded one, seal it properly because unsanded grout is porous and can get stains very easily.
- Epoxy Grout:
Epoxy grout is usually composed of two things: resins and solidifiers. After mixing it with water, you should use this mixture within a short time, otherwise, the mixture will harden. This type of grouting is the perfect choice for wet places such as the bathroom and kitchen counter. Epoxy grout is less absorbent in comparison to cement-based ones. It is extremely easy to clean the tiles that have epoxy grouting. A major downside of using this grout is that it is hard to apply the mixture and such tiles can be very messy.
- Furan Grout:
Furan grout is rarely used in residential projects and this grout is basically used for projects based on specific requirements. It is made of fortified alcohols and polymers and it resists all types of stains and chemicals. You can find it in labs, industrial factories, and meatpacking plants, and is available only in black color.
Using the wrong grout can pose a greater challenge at the time of installing the tiles correctly so it is important to use the right type of tiles grouting. When you install tiles in a high-traffic place then you must use a good quality grout mixer such as latex that helps to avoid staining of the grout.
